Colorado Summer Fun: Horseshoes and Croquet

Summer time is an excellent to joy fun games with the whole family. Playing outside together builds stronger bonds and can also release tension from the week. Get outside and enjoy your outdoor space with these amusing games!
Croquet
Croquet is a lawn game; it is played as a recreational pastime and also as a competitive sport. It involves hitting plastic or wooden balls with a mallet through hoops embedded into the grass playing court. This game can be played with 2-6 players.

How to Play
- Select a course
- Put wickets in ground
- Pass out mallets to players
- Each player must drive ball around the course in order determined ahead of time
- At the end the points are tallied (2 points for five of the wickets, 1 point for four wickets and 1 point for each stake for a total of 16 points)
Object of the Game
To win at croquet, a player or team must score the highest number of points. One point is awarded for every wicket passed through in the proper direction in proper order. Determine this before start of game.
Horseshoes
Horseshoes is an outdoor game that is played between two people, or two teams of two people each. The game is played by tossing horseshoes at stakes in the ground, which are usually around 40 feet apart. The horseshoes are U-shaped and are much larger than actual horseshoes that go on the hooves of horses.

How to Play
- Set up stakes
- Position one player at each stake, throw horseshoe at opposite stake, or one team member of each team at opposing stakes
- The player with the closest horseshoe gets 1 point
- If a player rings the stake, 3 points are awarded (ringing is when you get the horseshoe around the stake instead of near it)
Object of Game
Winner gets the most horseshoes around the stakes. Set a point or time limit beforehand.
These are just a couple of suggestions for enjoying your outdoor space with games. Follow traditional rules or make up your own! Adaptations can easily be made to accommodate large groups and time restraints, be creative!
