Outdoor Movie Night For Colorado Summer Fun
Colorado Summer Fun: Outdoor Movie Night
If you are looking for something fun to do with your family this summer, why not try an outdoor movie night. There is something so dreamy about watching a movie outside on a summer evening. Invite your friends and neighbors for a fun filled evening!
Great Reasons to Host an Outdoor Movie:
- Get to know your neighbors
- Kids are together in a safe environment
- Fun for everyone
- Inexpensive
Step by Step Guide to Your Movie Night
- Select a Location – Could be a backyard, patio, porch or garage. You will want to be able to control the amount of light in whichever spot you choose. You will want to avoid areas with a bright street light nearby if possible. Not everyone has a backyard so be creative with your space! A backyard that provides some privacy might be ideal.
- Equipment – Your equipment does not need to be state of the art. You can plug in your DVD player to a compatible projector. You can also rent a projector and screen for the occasion. You can always start with a simple white sheet and projector for the first time. The flat side of a house or garage will work well too. Consider outdoor speakers.
- Select a Movie – Consider your audience when selecting a film for your outdoor movie night. If children will be in attendance, make sure to choose a movie that is appropriate for all ages.
- Seating – Blankets on the ground are an easy option. Lounge chairs work, of course. Or you can use camping chairs, pillows, air mattresses, etc. You can also ask your guests to bring seating that will be most comfortable for them.
- Lighting – You will want the area to be dark enough to watch the movie but also allow a little light for function and ambiance. Candles or small decorative lights of any kind should do the trick.
- The Guest List – Invite neighbors, include anything they should know: bring blankets, snacks, address, time movie starts, etc. Easily keep track of your guest list with Evite and other similar services.
Other things to consider:
- Make sure to put out trash cans for your guests to use.
- Provide bug spray for your guests, you don’t want them itching and scratching all night.
- And outdoor movie night could potentially be disturbing to some neighbors. Make sure to let all of your neighbors know ahead of time and be sure to invite them to the festivities.
- What to watch? Consider your audience.
Hosting an outdoor movie night is a fun and creative way to get together with neighbors and friends. You can take turns hosting in your neighborhood or make it a Saturday night tradition. Perhaps the movie is the final chapter in a progressive patio party. If weather permits, you can also consider hosting an outdoor holiday movie as well (Easter, Halloween, and St. Patrick’s Day). Or you can choose a theme and ask your guests to come dressed up (Disney characters, Willy Wonka characters, time period theme, etc)
Have fun with your movie night!
