Enjoying Outdoor Spaces: Camping in Colorado

Camping in Colorado is one of the most enjoyable and satisfying summer experiences.  There are accommodations for all types of campers; car campers, tent campers, cabin campers. Colorado offers something for everyone!

If you are looking for a spot to go camping this summer, here are a few wonderful options.

  • Horsetooth Reservoir – West of Ft. Collins
  • Lake Granby – Arapaho National Recreation Area
  • Green Ridge Campground/ Shadow Mountain Reservoir – Located between Grand Lake and Lake Granby
  • Eleven Mile / Spinney Lake – In Lake George area
  • North Michigan Lake – North and south side of the reservoir
  • Turquoise Lake – San Isabelle National Forest
  • Great Sand Dunes – in Mosca, CO
  • Mesa Verde National Park – Cortez, CO
  • Guanella Pass – West of Mt. Evans
  • Echo Lake – Located at the beginning of Mt. Evans Auto Route
  • Rocky Mountain National Forest (Longs Peak, Moraine Park, Glacier Gorge)

Colorado is a beautiful state with many pristine areas. Be sure to take all of your trash with you when you leave your campsite and leave the space just like you found it (or better). You will want to bring a few trash bags for your rubbish, in case there are no trash cans nearby.

Before you head out, check for fire restrictions. Colorado is very dry and in some areas there may be restrictions on campfires.

Colorado is an outdoor paradise, be sure to take full advantage of it this summer. Fresh air will do you good.

There are plenty of things to do while camping in Colorado:

  • Hiking
  • Fishing (fishing license may be required)
  • Watch wildlife
  • Stargaze
  • Visit historic ruins
  • Visit state parks

Whether you like to be in an official campground with other campers around or you like to hike in so you are the only humans in sight, Colorado has a spot that is perfect for your camping desires.
